Do You Know A Unison Superhero?

17 June 2010, 10:22pm

Many of our Stewards & Reps work tirelessly to represent our members & fight to preserve terms & conditions, often without thanks. We’ve decided it’s time to recognise these unsung Unison Superheroes!

Unison Stewards, Reps & Convenors are engaged in a wide variety of work on your behalf. Not only do they advise members & accompany them to meetings, but they also work behind the scenes, preparing for meetings, consulting, & even negotiating on behalf of members. They do not receive anything extra for doing any of these duties - they choose to do them in order to assist colleagues & often out of principal.

Many members thank Unison for having helped them, but we'd like to make this recognition a bit more public.

Perhaps you've recently been helped by your local Unison Steward in one of the following ways:

  • Have you been successfully represented in a formal meeting?
  • Has a Steward accompanied you to a formal investigation?
  • Maybe you've had help with an absence issue?
  • Perhaps you've been helped to fight back against a work place bully?
  • Have you had assistance with a Health & Safety issue?
  • Did one of our Reps help you when management have treated you unfairly?
  • Or perhaps you feel you owe your job to the work of your Rep?

All of the above are the day to day work of our Stewards, Reps & Convenors who do this without seeking thanks. We think it's time to celebrate their great achievements & give the most hardworking amongst them a well deserved pat on the back.

Who Are The Superheroes?

They could be your local Steward, Convenor, Rep, or perhaps a Unison member that you know has done exceptional work to support members. Why not let us know who you'd like to thank by contacting us at: Unisona@westminster.gov.uk

The Awards

We will be holding an awards ceremony in July when we intend to publicly recognise those who've done the most to help our members & support the Branch.
