£900 per day for Westminster contractor!

14 April 2010, 7:29pm

Westminster Council are burning money daily on exorbitant contractor fees at the same time as making posts redundant.
We recently published an article criticising WCC for spending £23,000 on their corporate dinner, but unbeknown to us this was only the tip of the iceberg of Corporate Excess in Westminster.

At a time of serious cut backs in the Council we have received the outrageous news that WCC is paying one of its officials £900 per day! We have been informed that a recent Freedom of Information request has returned the following answer:

"The post of Head of Procurement and Supplier Relationship Management is currently filled by a contractor who has been working with us since May 2009 and whose daily rate is £900 per day."

That's equivalent to £4,500 per week or £216,000 per annum.

That's more than WCC's Chief Executive & more than the Prime Minister!

What can the head of procurement be doing that justifies such a huge salary?

How Westminster Council can even consider a single job cut whilst continuing to pay this sort of money is an outrage. They owe an apology to anyone who has already been made redundant as part of their "efficiency savings".

We recommend all members to write to Mike More asking him to justify this situation & demanding that he act to stop it before a single other cut is made. In fact, we'd like to make it easy for you - why not print off & edit the sample letter we have attached to this article (below)?

Don't let them get away with this - write to Mike More now!
