The deadline for the return of your Pay and Reward assimilation letter is Wednesday 22nd October 2008 at 5PM. If you do not return your letter by this time then you run the risk of losing back pay.
WHICH BOX SHOULD I TICK?
1. Acceptance of variation to contract.
Westminster UNISON advice is to tick this box and accept your new terms and conditions. Westminster UNISON has taken considerable time to ensure that the negotiated package covers all the terms and conditions that our members are employed on. The package was put to all affected members who voted in favour of accepting the offer. Unless your circumstances are peculiar and are not covered by the negotiated proposals, or you believe that assimilating into the new reward scheme will result in detriment or loss, you should accept and return your new terms.
2. Acceptance under protest.
If you believe you will suffer a loss which is not compensated for in the package, then you should accept the new terms under protest. Ticking this option means that you can still make a claim for your loss after assimilation. We believe that very few members will be in this position because the majority of potential losses have been identified and compensation packages negotiated. Rumours have circulated that by ticking this option you will not be entitled to back pay, this is untrue. Accepting under protest does not forfeit your right to back pay from 1st April 2008.
3. Rejection of variation to contract.
Members are not advised to tick this box. Any member who wishes to reject the proposed terms will run the risk of losing back payments from April 2008. Any member who is considering ticking this box should seek individual UNISON advice before doing so.
OPEN HOUSE SESSIONS
UNISON has persuaded management to hold open house sessions on reward because many members have had problems getting surgery appointments. If you are still not sure about what you are being offered, you must attend a surgery with Human Resources as soon as possible. UNISON has negotiated time of for members to attend these surgeries and your manager will have been advised to let you go.
