Jerry Mavin, Corporate Property Portfolio Manager, revealed to the Community Protection Health and Safety Committee that this vital health and safety document was accidentally discarded during a scheduled paperwork clearance earlier this year.
It is a legal requirement to have a Fire Risk Assessment as it documents how risks associated with fire are managed so as to ensure the safety of people working and visiting City Hall. Given that some floors of City Hall are now rented out to external organisations, it is vitally important to coordinate actions.
Dominique Perrissin-Fabert, Westminster UNISON Health and Safety Officer said;
"I was astonished when Jerry Mavin casually mentioned that this document was missing at a formal committee meeting for health and safety. City Hall has over 1500 workstations at which many of our members work. Standards of Health and Safety management as low as this jeopardise the health safety and welfare of our members."
In response, Westminster UNISON has given the Chief Executive, Mike More (the person ultimately responsible for breaches of health and safety standards) giving 5 working days to provide a response to our concerns. Failure to do so will result in a formal complaint being submitted to the Fire Authorities.
